Renault is rolling out traction battery assembly in several of its plants as part of the transition to electric mobility. Clemessy teams are working to design and implement end-of-line testing and charging solutions to ensure initial battery life and compliance before they are fitted in vehicles.
The test benches designed by Clemessy serve a dual purpose: they perform end-of-line electrical tests by communicating with the integrated computers, and they carry out an initial battery charge so that vehicles can leave the factory without any additional operations.
The test benches are currently being deployed at several Renault Group sites in France and abroad:
- Batilly (electric utility vehicles),
- Douai (E-Tech range : Mégane, R5, 4L, future Clio),
- Maubeuge (Kangoo),
- Valladolid in Spain (Captur), with batteries transferred to Palencia (Austral, Kadjar, Rafale),
- Pitesti in Romania (hybrid models: Jogger, Duster, Bigster),
- Bursa in Turkey (Duster, future electric Clio).
More than 90 test benches have been delivered or are currently being deployed, including five specific benches designed for more advanced charging and discharging tests. A new phase is scheduled to begin in Sandouville by the end of 2025, with the deployment of benches suitable for 800 V batteries.
The deployment of our various test benches is supported by a network of regional branches, enabling us to provide the local support and responsiveness that customers expect: from installation and maintenance to monitoring and adaptation over time.
Designing tomorrow's batteries
With the rapid evolution of battery technologies, voltages are increasing: from today's 400 V, manufacturers are exploring architectures at 800 V and beyond. This transformation involves new technical challenges, particularly in terms of critical components for test and monitoring equipment.
Clemessy teams are anticipating these developments in order to offer solutions tailored to tomorrow's standards. This proactive approach enables us to meet manufacturers' needs and provide long-term support for the transformation of the automotive sector.
