Eiffage Énergie Systèmes - Belux climbs the SKAO CO2 Performance Ladder

The CO2 Performance Ladder is a Netherlands initiative managed by the Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement and Business (SKAO, in Dutch). It offers a competitive advantage to certified companies and organizations in the awarding of public contracts. Eiffage Energie Systèmes - Belux is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices through its various activities, and has set up a certified and transparent energy management system.

The CO2 Performance Ladder is a genuine energy transition tool, designed to help companies and public authorities reduce their energy consumption, CO2 emissions and associated costs, in line with European directives and the Paris agreements. “When a certified company responds to a public call for tenders, its position on the performance ladder gives it an award advantage. Eiffage Énergie Systèmes – Belux is certified at the third out of five possible levels, and thus benefits from a fictitious 6% advantage, which may influence the client when making his choice”, explained Infra division QSE coordinator Dominique Dieu.

Eiffage Energie Systèmes – Belux’s three divisions have been certified to level 3 on a five-step scale according to the SKAO 3.1 manual, since March 3, 2025, and this certification will be valid until January 14, 2027. After this date, our experts will have to comply with the more stringent requirements of the new SKAO manual (4.0), which now has three levels aligned with ISO standards. A “recertification” audit will then confirm the company's integration into the new CO2 Performance Ladder, whose third step now corresponds to carbon neutrality by 2050.

“As a result of tangible, local action taken within the organization, this certification has a real environmental impact. The advantage given by the CO2 Performance Ladder at the time of the call for tenders is backed by an obligation to achieve results. It can even lead to a financial penalty if commitments are not met,” warned Dominique Dieu.

Thanks to its participation in the CO2 Performance Ladder, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes - Belux has already won its first contract, against competitors whose lack of certification was an obstacle. The CO2 Performance Ladder is integrated into the business reference framework as an optional module, based on an action plan with a strategy, budgets and efficiency measures. “It's not just a sheet of paper displayed on the wall,” insisted Dominique Dieu. “It's the result of a cross-functional methodology that takes into account the specific features of each division, while aiming for the Eiffage Group's low-carbon objective. It's a genuine approach to energy transition,” he concluded.

Eiffage Belux subsidiaries have all committed to climbing the CO2 Performance Ladder, out of a sense of shared conviction and in line with the Group's commitments. But this local action is also, and above all, in tune with public purchasers' expectations and requirements.
