The Eiffage Foundation supports “Un Toit Vers l’Emploi”

The “Un Toit vers l'Emploi” programme consists in first offering people living on the streets in Rouen a roof over their heads, and subsequently supporting them in their search for employment. Every evening in Rouen, around 500 people are uncertain of finding a place to stay. These people often get very little help for their reintegration back into society. This programme was launched in February 2019. It aims to develop a pool of wooden mobile homes for people who are homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless, and assist them in their search for a job, the idea being that the mobility of the homes will significantly increase their chances of employment.

The programme includes the opening of a day centre called “La Case Départ” offering themed workshops, which started in January 2021. The challenge is to remove as many brakes as quickly as possible so that the return to employment is as sustainable as possible, thanks to dense and active support.

So far, 4 mobile homes have been installed. They were purchased from an external manufacturer but a 5th "prototype" home is being manufactured within a company that produces small wooden mobile homes for this specific purpose: “La Fabrik à Yoops”. Production started in the spring, the aim being to locally produce small homes at a cost unmatched in the region, using an approach that fully respects the environment.

The overall objective of the project is to move towards making Rouen a "zero homeless person" zone. To begin with, the goal is to accommodate 10 to 15 people per day. A first woodworking workshop has been set up and other manual skills workshops will start up over the next few years. In total, during its first year of activity, the association will have welcomed and supported around 80 people in 2021. Around 10 of these will have access to “Yoop” housing.

"We are convinced that we have developed an offer that is particularly suited to people living on the streets, both in terms of housing and all the socio-economic support that goes with it. The year 2021 will be rich in lessons and essential adaptations in order to better meet the needs of people facing exclusion."
