European first for APRR and ENGIE for an electric truck corridor

On October 4th 2024, APRR and ENGIE Vianeo inaugurated their electric charging corridor on the Paris-Lyon corridor, equipped with ultra-fast charging stations dedicated to electric heavy goods vehicles. A significant and unprecedented step for heavy electric mobility supported by these two pioneering companies and partners.

Guillaume Hérent, Managing Director of APRR-AREA, Frank Lacroix, Executive Vice-President of ENGIE in charge of Energy Solutions, Michel Bisson, Chairman of the Grand Paris Sud Conurbation, and Sébastien Lime, Sub-Prefect of Seine-et-Marne, inaugurated Europe's first charging corridor dedicated to electric heavy goods vehicles at the Galande service area in Réau, south-east of Paris (on the A5b motorway).

An ultra-fast, very high-power charging point was demonstrated at the event. This event completes the deployment of a unique recharging network reserved for heavy mobility on the motorway between Paris and Lyon (A5b and A6 in both directions), designed by APRR and ENGIE Vianeo to promote electric mobility.

The aim of this project is to reassure hauliers that they can switch to eTrucks on long journeys, thanks to a powerful and reliable network, in order to speed up the decarbonisation of freight transport. This type of corridor makes a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from freight transport, a sector that currently has a very high environmental impact: heavy goods vehicles account for 40% of transport-related emissions in France.

It's estimated that this corridor will make it possible to avoid 40,000 tonnes of CO2 in the space of more than 10 years, and to eliminate the emissions of fine particles and NOx linked to combustion engines. In his speech, Guillaume Hérent reiterated that reinvented mobility is a reality at APRR, concluding: ‘APRR-AREA were already the first motorway networks to be 100% equipped with electric charging stations for cars. Today, we are proud to be working alongside ENGIE Vianeo to decarbonise all forms of mobility. By speeding up the introduction of high-performance technologies on our networks, we are taking another step towards a low-carbon motorway.
