Created in 2022, the Safety Trophies is part of a strong commitment to improving risk prevention on worksites on the APRR network. It is based on the involvement of all those involved in an operation, from the project owner to the contractors, including the SPS (safety and health protection) coordinator.
For this 2025 edition, the competition format has evolved, with the introduction of a single overall ranking. Three trophies were awarded (Gold, Silver, Bronze), plus a special jury prize for an outstanding approach to hospitality safety.
The 2025 winners
Gold Trophy - Eiffage Route
The operation involved renewing the wearing course of the tunnel pavements, with traffic diverted during weekends. Carried out in complex conditions, the work was carried out with rigor, in an environment requiring precise coordination between numerous machines and participants.
Silver Trophy – Freyssinet
The work involved treating the edges of the structures, reworking the concrete and improving the waterproofing and equipment. This high-rise worksite, secured by rolling scaffolding, included a double safety net, praised by the jury for its effectiveness.
Bronze Trophy – Nouvetra
The project involved upgrading an engineering structure: waterproofing, reinforcement of abutments, redesign of riprap heads. The project presented a number of risks for users, which were managed by rigorously securing access and precisely anticipating the work phases.
A special prize for exemplary safety
The jury's special prize was awarded to Eurovia for its resurfacing project between Francin and Aiton, on the A43 highway. Carried out at night, with traffic diverted, the work was distinguished by a particularly structured safety reception system.
Before each phase, a safety correspondent organized specific meetings with the teams. Each worker received a personalized sheet including a QR code reminding them of the main instructions. Kilometre charts were used to illustrate the different intervention zones, access points and work phases. Finally, each person was identified by a sticker or badge and had to sign a welcome booklet, thus ensuring the traceability of all those present on the site.
These high standards ensured smooth coordination, better management of co-activities and the adoption of best practices throughout the site.
Concrete results for safety
Hervé Grosjean, APRR's Operations Planning and Safety Delegate, praised the commitment of the participating companies. "It was a wonderful ceremony, with rich exchanges between participants. Everyone saw the Safety Trophies as an essential step in our quest to improve safety. No workplace accidents were recorded on any of the winning operations. They all scrupulously respected the commitments, sometimes deploying innovative and collaborative solutions."
A collective dynamic to be pursued
Ghislaine Baillemont, Deputy Managing Director in charge of infrastructure and concessions at APRR, highlighted the progress made since the launch of the scheme. By 2024, the Safety Trophies had been applied to almost 120 operations, compared with 60 in 2023. This ramp-up has resulted in a marked reduction in the accident frequency rate, from 17 in 2022 to 6.1 by the end of 2024. "Together, we're making significant progress, but there's still a long way to go. Let's continue to work hand in hand to achieve our common goal: zero accident."
The ceremony was an opportunity to reiterate that safety on construction sites depends above all on anticipation, rigor and cooperation between all those involved.
