Transformation of the former Courrier Picard headquarters into housing in Amiens: a project combining rehabilitation and new construction

Eiffage Construction has completed the transformation of the former Courrier Picard headquarters in Amiens into a high-end residential program of 48 apartments, called "Recto Verso". This ambitious project combines rehabilitation and new construction in the heart of Amiens, enhancing the building’s listed Art Deco facades.

Launched in January 2022, the project faced major technical and logistical challenges, particularly due to site constraints and the need to preserve historical architectural elements, including a wooden framework dating back to the 17th century. The heavy rehabilitation involved two buildings from the 20th century, with the complete renovation of the entire supporting structure and the installation of new steel and concrete floors. The Art Deco facades were carefully restored.

A challenge for the teams who worked on a site constrained by its proximity to neighboring buildings and had to carry out complex bracing work to ensure the stability of both the surrounding structures and the preserved facades throughout the construction phase. Every stone, every wall was treated with meticulous attention and exceptional craftsmanship.

The new construction allowed for the addition of two residential buildings. These buildings complement the entire real estate program and will offer modern and bright living spaces.

The new housing units were delivered in September 2024, while the rehabilitation of the historic buildings was completed at the end of March 2025.

This project was carried out in synergy with Eiffage Energies Systèmes, responsible for the electrical works on site.

Congratulations to the teams for the successful completion of this project!
