Delivered in 2021, the tower won awards for the creativity of the unique architectural design of its stainless steel envelope, as well as for the high-end engineering of its manufacture.
As part of a consortium, Eiffage Metal was responsible for the Fondation Luma tower in Arles, designed by architect Frank Gehry. The structure comprises three main subassemblies:
- a 5,000 m² metal façade supporting 11,000 stainless steel facing blocks
- fifty or so glass cubes (glass boxes) protruding from the façade to let light into the building
- a glass rotunda 56 m in diameter and 18 m high, to create a naturally ventilated reception area.
The geometric complexity of the project meant that our engineering department had to design the entire structure in 3D. In fact, the 3D model was the only way to bridge the gap between the 2D plans, the calculations and the production of the manufacturing drawings.
A unique construction combining design and modernity in the service of Art
Thierry Wolkiewiez, Managing Director France, is delighted "with Eiffage Metal France's involvement in this signature project. I'm very proud of our design offices, which were able to manage the complexity of this construction. Their specialized know-how enabled us to respect the architectural concept of this foundation with its unprecedented curves. Once again, this is a magnificent example of the collective intelligence that drives our company, enabling us to surpass our limits on every project and bring to life emblematic 'Made in France' creations.
