The Fond des Hirondelles association, run by 20 volunteers, sets up solidarity development projects in France and around the world.
The association is launching a pilot scheme in two areas of Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), including a government designated priority neighbourhood, installing solidarity street cupboards that allow local residents to donate and exchange clothing and non-perishable food items. The aim is to create community ties. The equipment is manufactured by an ESAT (French organisations helping disabled people into work) based in Idron. The association has also launched a dedicated mobile app designed to improve these community ties and also promote professional integration.
The Eiffage Foundation and Eiffage Construction Pau provided financial support to create the prototypes for the street cupboards built by disabled workers at the ESAT.
