Atmosphère, atmos faire, tomorrow’s citizens will be eco-aware…

As part of an Energy Performance Contract (CPE) signed with the Centre Region for the period 2010 –2025, Eiffage Énergie Centre Tours has carried out several awareness-raising campaigns to promote environmentally responsible behaviour, with the aim of reducing energy costs in the 19 high schools involved in the CPE.

Our teams began renovation and insulation work in all 19 schools in 2010, targeting a 40% fall in energy consumption and a 50% drop in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. After two years’ work on the project, we introduced awareness-raising campaigns for both pupils and staff. “To raise awareness of environmentally responsible behaviour among pupils, we have designed a number of campaigns that are both educational and fun, including serious games and annual events on specific topics” explains Isabelle Moriet-Bastard, ecology facilitator in charge of Centre Region CPE assignments for Eiffage Énergie. “This year, we are offering them a play entitled “Atmosphère, atmos faire” created by the Anjou theatre company Spectabilis. There will be at least 8 performances in the spring. The play was premiered on 13 December 2016 in Amboise’s viticultural high school.” The play is followed by a debate led by Isabelle Moriet-Bastard, and aims to raise consciousness among the Centre Region’s pupils, enabling them to become tomorrow’s eco-citizens.

Eiffage Énergie has been organizing annual meetings of this kind around a priority topic since 2012. They provide an opportunity to discuss the impact of greenhouse gas and climate change on the planet, or more generally, environmental development in the world, in a humorous, educational and interactive way. “High-school pupils are not always easy to captivate. You must be able to update and innovate to get your message across. We also organize parallel activities, like visits to a hydro dam and a wood-fired heating plant, a quiz, and workshops to create energy stickers for display in the high-schools. All these long-term initiatives have a common aim: to encourage everyone to reduce energy costs” concludes Isabelle Moriet-Bastard.
