Dakar, capital of sport
Sport is a well-established centre of interest in Dakar. There are sports facilities throughout the city and large numbers of runners congregate on the Corniche or in city streets to train.
In addition, Dakar is preparing to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2022, a first in Africa and in the history of the Olympics. This preparation involves creating infrastructures as well as hosting events focussed on young people and sports. Under the supervision of the Senegalese National Olympic Sports Committee (CNOSS), Dakar 2022 will be the world's youth capital.
This is the backdrop to the Eiffage Dakar 2019 marathon, which will play its part on the road to 2022, uniting not just the country's youth but all sections of the population for a day, to live and breathe sport and Olympic values.
A 26-mile postcard in the heart of Dakar
The official 26-mile (42 km) route that begins and ends at Place de la Nation has been specifically designed to pass Dakar's must-see monuments, including the Divinité mosque and the Renaissance monument.
The Marathon village will be a forum for exchanges and meetings open to all, whether or not they are competing.
The marathon is an opportunity to meet up with friends or family to share a friendly sporting event with stalls, exhibits, games and entertainment.
