Representing no less than 65 nations, almost 11,000 runners set off along the coast road to run one of the three distances: 10km, the semi-marathon (21.097 km) and the marathon (42.195 km). The route was tailored to pass by the city's key monuments, including the Mosque of the Divinity and the African Renaissance Monument.
Runners, attendants and visitors then came together at the event's village for two days of festivities designed for all ages (kids stadium, concert, etc.) and linked to the nation's culture.
The Eiffage Dakar Marathon 2019 is contributing to the Summer Youth Olympics that will take place in Dakar in 2022. This event, which is a first in Africa and in Olympic history, will have positive effects for the whole country, its infrastructure, tourist industry and youth.
